Bleeding in upper intestinal tract presents as either blood vomitings or as black stools.
It is important to remember that black stools is a sign of bleeding and should prompt urgent investigations. Upper GI bleeding merits an urgent upper GI endoscopy. Almost all bleeds can be controlled by a timely endoscopy. The doctor can do injection or banding to stop the upper GI bleeding.
